THE BJÖRN EKLUND SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established in 2013 by the Eklund and Dupire families in memory of their late son and brother, Björn Eklund.

From a very young age, Björn was a devoted opera enthusiast. He took every opportunity to listen to a wide range of music but opera was the genre he loved the most. He lived most of his life in Stockholm, Sweden, but also in Japan and the USA.

Additionally, he had strong family connections to, and often visited, Vienna and Munich. On Björn's last, and longer journey abroad, he went to Rome where he was able to experience the places where Tosca´s scenes unfolded. When not traveling, his interest for music provided his thoughts with adventurous and exciting journeys.

At the age of thirty Björn passed away from a malignant disorder which he battled bravely for many years - without ever complaining. His interest for the art of opera always inspired him and kept his mood up.

The Eklund and Dupire families, parents and siblings with spouses living in Stockholm and New York, are proud to have the possibility to honor Björn Eklund's memory by supporting the Opera Foundation's scholarship at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
